This happened April 17, 1964. Powerful midsize cars with large engines gradually forced out of full-brothers from the market. Lee Iacocca, senior manager of Ford, foresaw that the small sports cars will be the next weapon in the Serious road wars and wars for the market. Ford has decided that, rather than to develop one of their previous models, it is better to create a new direction and a new class of machines - the pony-car. Initially the car was conceived as a double, in the best European traditions, but eventually turned four. To reduce costs, Mustang was based on the issued already Ford Falcon.
